Measuring visibility:
seeing instead of believing.
Whether a website works shows on four levels: who visits, what people find on Google and Bing, which AI systems read your content — and whether you are mentioned in AI answers even when nobody clicks. btlabs Core measures all four in the same cockpit. The numbers come from different sources and are deliberately not added up into one pretty total.
Four questions, four honest answers.
Each level answers a different question — and each belongs to a different part of the work on search engines and AI visibility.
Who comes by — and what do they do?
A built-in analytics without cookies counts visits and the actions that matter: read to the end, a click on your phone number or email address. Sources are cleanly separated — search, other websites, campaigns, AI assistants.
What do people find on Google and Bing?
Once the accounts are connected, the system pulls the real search queries from Google Search Console and Bing every night: which terms, which pages, which position. Search terms just behind the first results page are flagged as quick wins — the basis of any keyword strategy. Bing also provides the backlinks to your most important pages.
What's in your way on your own website?
Every day an internal index checks every page: a score for title, description, keyword and preview image, plus thin pages, orphaned pages, dead ends, broken links and keyword cannibalization. It's the part of search engine optimization you can move yourself, without an advertising budget.
Which AI systems read your content?
Visits from AI crawlers and assistants are counted separately from people and, where providers publish official address lists, checked against them — otherwise a scraper under a false name would count as a success. For every machine-readable file such as llms.txt, you see how often it is fetched.
Are you mentioned even when nobody clicks?
If an AI recommends your business without anyone opening your site, no data point is created on your side. That's why the citation monitor asks for itself: up to ten test questions, put to up to eleven language models, rated from “not mentioned” to “first choice” — along with who gets mentioned instead.
What the numbers don't say.
No single score for everything.
Visitors, search data, AI access and AI mentions come from different sources with different delays — Google delivers its data about three days later. That's why they sit side by side instead of being rolled into one number. If a value can't be fetched, it says “not available”, never a zero.
A sample, not a guarantee.
The citation monitor shows what language models answer to your test questions today. That's a sample, not a promise for every future answer. It is switched off by default, and every run costs something through your own AI access. Check yourself whether an AI cites you →
Counting isn't cleaning.
The visitor analytics classifies suspicious visits but doesn't filter them out — an honest raw value instead of a polished number. Which metrics still count in the age of AI answers is the subject of the article on measuring. What you measure when rank 1 is worth nothing →

What you measure when position one is worth nothing
Average position is losing its meaning, because an answer nobody clicks has moved in between the ranking and the customer. What replaces it, how to measure that — and the trap where more impressions at unchanged clicks look like progress.

How do you check if an AI is actually citing you?
A simple self-check shows whether ChatGPT and Perplexity recommend your business correctly — and why checking once is not enough.

From Inquiry to Customer: How an AI Visitor Really Converts
The AI recommendation is only half the job. What happens between "the AI names your business" and "the inquiry actually arrives" — with a real South Tyrol angle and three languages.
Frequently asked questions about measuring.
How can I tell whether an AI mentions me?
For that, btlabs Core has the citation monitor. You set up to ten test questions — phrased the way your customers would ask, without naming you — and the system puts them to up to eleven AI models. The result is sorted into four levels: not mentioned, mentioned, recommended or first choice, along with the websites mentioned instead. Two things belong to the picture: the monitor is switched off by default, and every run costs something through your own AI access. And the answers are samples, not a guarantee of what a customer will see tomorrow.
Are visitors from AI answers worth more than classic Google clicks?
Yes, usually: someone who reaches you through an AI recommendation has already compared options and knows why they're contacting you specifically — the AI has already done the pre-selection. The reasoning: random Google clicks come with a lot of scatter, while with an AI recommendation part of the choice has already been made.
So what counts for you isn't the click count, but how many real inquiries you end up with.
Do AI answers mean I lose website visitors?
Overall, fewer clicks come through — there's no denying it. The AI answers many questions directly, without anyone opening your site at all. This mostly affects simple questions like opening hours or basic prices.
So what matters is no longer raw visitor count, but whether you show up and get recommended inside the AI answer itself. If you show up there, you still win inquiries — just not through a classic website click.
Does zero-click search change how customers find me?
Yes, and fundamentally so: more and more often the user gets their answer directly on the results page or from the AI assistant — without clicking a single website. For you the value therefore shifts from the sheer click count to the mention: what matters is whether you appear in the answer itself. Whoever gets recommended there wins customers even when no visit happens at all — and whoever optimises only for clicks loses visibility without noticing it immediately in the traffic numbers. In short: you still get found, just in a different place than before.
