# Go ahead, ask your AI: does it know your business yet?

> 65% of Germans use AI, mostly for research. Test in 5 minutes whether your business appears in AI answers — with 3 concrete steps.

Run a small experiment today. Open ChatGPT — or any AI of your choice — and ask the question your customers ask: "Who does [your service] in my area?" Read the answer. Does your business appear?

If yes: congratulations, you're one of the few. If no: you're in good company — and that's exactly what this post is about.

## Your customers are already asking the AI

65% of people in Germany now use generative AI, and the most common use case is research: 72% of users search for information with it (TÜV AI Study 2025, Forsa). This is no longer niche behaviour — it is the new everyday. And these people don't get a list of ten blue links. They get a finished answer with two or three concrete names.

Either your name is in that answer. Or your competitor's.

## Why does the AI know some businesses — and not others?

An AI recommends businesses whose information it can read and understand unambiguously: what you offer, where you are, when you're open, what makes you special. If that is clear, current and consistent across the web, the AI can name you correctly. If it is scattered, outdated or missing, it guesses — or skips you.

The good part: unlike the years-long fight for Google rankings, almost everything here is still wide open. Most businesses simply haven't dealt with the topic yet.

## Three things you can do this week

1. **Test yourself — in three languages.** Ask the AI about your business in German, Italian and English. In South Tyrol, your customers ask in all three.
2. **Check your basic data.** Opening hours, address, phone number, services: does everything match everywhere — on your website, in your Google profile, in directories? Contradictions are the most common reason for wrong AI answers.
3. **Assess yourself honestly.** Are you not mentioned at all, mentioned incorrectly, or mentioned correctly? That is your starting point — and that's all you need for today.

## What comes next

What lies behind all of this — the numbers for South Tyrol and the DACH region, why wrong AI answers are riskier than none, and which stage your business is at today — we have written up in a comprehensive guide: [When the AI Recommends: The Guide to AI Visibility in South Tyrol and the DACH Region](https://btlabs.dev/en/posts/ai-visibility-south-tyrol-dach).

And because honest is better than loud: nobody can guarantee that an AI will name you. But whether your information is readable to it is in your own hands — and that is exactly what we build foundations for.
