# Zero-click search

> Definition, current numbers (68% of Google searches end without a click) and why fewer clicks need not mean fewer customers.

Synonyms: Zero click search, no-click search, Zero-Click

The trend is measurable and accelerating: in 2024, according to [SparkToro/Datos](https://sparktoro.com/blog/2024-zero-click-search-study-for-every-1000-us-google-searches-only-374-clicks-go-to-the-open-web-in-the-eu-its-360/), around 60% of all US Google searches ended without a single click to an external website; by early 2026 it was 68%. Once Google shows an AI overview, organic click-through drops by over 60% — and on pure AI search services, around 93% of sessions end without any website visit at all.

For businesses this sounds threatening, but the picture is more nuanced: the clicks that remain are worth more. Someone who reaches a website after an AI recommendation has already compared and is closer to a decision — AI-referred visitors convert significantly better and stay longer. The new math: fewer visitors, but better ones. The precondition is appearing in the AI answer at all — otherwise you get neither.
