# MCP (Model Context Protocol)

> Learn how the Model Context Protocol makes your website content accessible to AI assistants in a structured way and with clear permissions.

Synonyms: MCP, Model Context Protocol

MCP is an open interface between AI assistants and your content — and it covers two different, equally important uses. First: external AI services like ChatGPT or Perplexity no longer scrape your page and guess what it says — they read the right content directly through MCP and cite it correctly when someone asks about your business. Second — and this is the part many overlook: you yourself, or an AI assistant of your choice, can use the same access to work directly with your own website: maintaining content, querying your own data, handling tasks, without clicking through the admin system.

The difference from classic crawling matters: a crawler collects text and interprets it afterwards. Through MCP, the requesting AI gets structured answers to specific questions — opening hours, services, contact details — exactly as you've entered them. You stay in control: you decide who can access what, and every access is logged.

For your business, that means your content isn't just findable for AI systems, it's directly usable. Someone asking an AI for a provider gets reliable details instead of guessed-together fragments — and you're named correctly.

Just as important: you don't have to wait for someone outside to ask. You can use the same access to "talk" directly to your own website — updating content, querying your own data, delegating recurring tasks. With btlabs Core, that's not an add-on module, but the same standard external AI systems use too.

As a first step, check which details about your business AI assistants already get wrong today — opening hours, services, prices. Those are exactly the details that benefit most from being accessible in a structured way through a defined interface.
