# First-party data

> Learn why first-party data is worth more to your business than third-party tracking — reliable, privacy-friendly and in your own hands.

Synonyms: 1st-party data, own customer data, owned data

The difference lies in the origin: first-party data arises in the direct relationship between your business and your customers — on your website, through your forms, in your newsletter. Third-party data, by contrast, comes from outsiders, usually advertising networks that follow users across many websites. That model is crumbling: browsers increasingly block tracking cookies, and privacy law draws tight boundaries.

This makes your own data more valuable: it is reliable because it comes from real interactions, and it can be collected in a privacy-friendly way — for instance with cookieless website statistics that need no banner at all. On that basis you make decisions with real numbers instead of assumptions: which content works, where enquiries come from, what customers are actually looking for.

For a business in South Tyrol this means: the direct customer relationship — enquiries, reservations, returning guests — is your most valuable store of data. It should come together on your own infrastructure rather than sit scattered across other people's platforms, whose rules and prices can change at any time. First-party data is owned media in its purest form: it stays with you, even when platforms change course.
