# Digital knowledge and service interface

> What a digital knowledge and service interface is: a website that makes content readable for people and queryable for AI agents at the same time.

Synonyms: knowledge interface, service interface, AI-ready website, intelligent web system

The term describes a shift in what a website is for: it is no longer primarily a designed brochure for human visitors, but a source that gives information. The same maintained content — services, opening hours, responsibilities, languages — is delivered in two forms: as a readable page for people, and as structured, machine-readable information for AI agents researching on someone’s behalf.

Technically this rests on open standards rather than proprietary add-on services: llms.txt as a machine-readable profile, Schema.org/JSON-LD for structured data, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as a permission-controlled, logged access route for AI assistants. The decisive part is the single source: update an opening time once and the answer changes everywhere — on the page, in the search engine and in the AI answer.

For businesses the practical difference is where errors come from. When an AI system finds no verified information, it falls back on directories, stale snippets and guesswork — a wrong phone number or an outdated opening time being the typical result. A knowledge and service interface takes the guessing away from the machine.
